Worth the Splurge
Last week we gave you a peek at our design process (if you missed the post you can check it out here) so we thought it would be fun to talk about a few decor elements that we think make a huge difference! By no means do you need to incorporate all of these into your wedding design for it to be a beautiful event but even adding one in will instantly elevate the look.
A lot of venues come with basic polyester linens. Some may offer a variety of colors and some may just have the basic ivory, white or black. Renting specialty linens opens a whole new design door- they come in so many colors, patterns and textures that it’s so easy to add personality and make your wedding stand out. La Tavola Linen is our absolute favorite and they have beautiful showrooms all over the country that you can go into to see and touch all of their linens. If your wedding is in the Bay Area, Napa Valley Linens also has some amazing options and BBJ Linen ships their products directly to you wherever you are in the country. If decking out all of the tables isn’t an option, consider using specialty linens just for the sweetheart table, bridal party tables, or accent tables (cake, guest book, etc.). You can also just do specialty napkins or runners. For those gorgeous hand dyed silk runners that keep popping up on your Instagram feed, we love Tono + Co, Illume Silks and Silk & Willow.
There are so many great tabletop rentals available to brides these days! Seriously, the options are endless. For flatware alone, you can choose gold, rose gold, copper, wood, black, white, you name it! One of our favorite tabletop upgrades that adds an instant wow factor is colored vintage glassware. I love it so much I’ve actually amassed quite a collection that is now available for rent (feel free to contact us if you’d like to use our pieces for your event)! When it comes to chargers, plates, flatware, and salt cellars though, we’re lucky to have some amazing options here in California. Casa de Perrin and Theoni both offer beautiful selections.
This makes an extra big difference if you are doing long rows of banquet or farm tables. We still suggest one centerpiece per table but to fill the empty space in between the centerpieces, it’s so worth it to ask your florist to do bud vases with a few stems. Even with round tables, especially if you do not have chargers or any sort of place setting, a small centerpiece can leave the table looking a little empty. Opt for lush centerpieces (adding more greenery can achieve this while keeping the floral budget from getting too out of control) and make sure to add in some pretty votives or taper candles.
Paper + Calligraphy
A lot of people may say that it is not worth it to splurge on your wedding invitations because most of the time they end up just being thrown away by everyone besides your mom. However, wedding invitations really do set the tone and are the first glimpse into the wedding day that your guests will get. You don’t need an all gold foil letterpress invitation, but even choosing a heavy or textured paper will give your invitation an instant upgrade. It’s also worth it to carry the same look and feel throughout all of your paper items- programs, menus, escort and place cards, favor tags, signage, and table numbers. Your paper suite is a great opportunity to get creative and add another design layer. Photographers love to style and capture not just the invitations but all paper items together now so even if everything ends up being recycled, you’ll have those images forever.
Calligraphy also adds a special handmade touch to your paper suite. It takes time for a calligrapher to address envelopes or do wedding signage and that really shows. Plus they can write on so many different surfaces (everything from lucite and wood to agate slices, rocks and leaves) that would be impossible to print on.
Lounge areas are such a sweet detail to add if you can. Vintage couches, chairs and tables make for a cozy spot for guests to relax and give them another option instead of staying at their table all evening. These rentals are so pretty that they also make a great spot for photos of you and your new spouse. Found, Seventh Heaven and One True Love are all bay area vintage rental companies that are definitely worth checking out for special pieces.
Of course, what ultimately makes the wedding day beautiful is the commitment that you and your spouse have made to one another and all of the love you’re surrounded by. But hey, how often do you get to design the wedding of your dreams?! We’re here to help you do just that so head on over to the connect page and let’s get started!
